How to Use RSI for 0DTE Entry Timing on SPX

RSI line-spread, chop detection, and unified bias labels for intraday SPX verticals — when to lean in and when 0DTE is a skip day.

Zero-DTE SPX verticals compress decision time into minutes. Price can traverse your short strike before a 15m regime filter even closes. RSI on a dedicated panel — with line-spread momentum and bull/bear zones above and below 50 — helps answer a narrower question: is intraday momentum supporting my vertical direction right now, or is the panel in chop?

Line-spread: chop, normal, strong

OrisTrade RSI Momentum Desk compares RSI to its EMA and WMA rails. When the spread between rails is tight, the panel reads CHOP — a poor environment to sell cheap 0DTE premium into a breakout. When spread widens with RSI holding above 50 (bull) or below 50 (bear), unified signals (LONG STRONG, AGGRESSIVE SHORT, NO TRADE) prioritize which vertical archetype even gets considered.

RSI 50 gate vs raw crosses

Raw MA crosses on RSI fire often on 5m–15m index charts. Filtering crosses so buys require RSI above 50 and sells below 50 raises selectivity — modeled win rate improves at the cost of frequency. For 0DTE, fewer tags with clearer bias usually beats more entries with ambiguous momentum.

Indicators are half the 0DTE stack

Chart timing without session scorecards, opening-range gates, and mandatory time exits still leaves gap risk into the close. Pair RSI panel context with the OrisTrade 0 DTE Traders journal: separate P&L book, session caps, and skip rules when volatility regime or macro events block the day.
